MBTA Commuter Rail to Salem

Train & Bus:
Train service is available on the Newburyport / Rockport Commuter Rail Line from Boston’s North Station.  After getting off the train at the Salem Depot, exit up the stairs and onto Bridge Street.  From the Salem Depot, it is a 15-minute walk to The House of the Seven Gables (see directions below). Bus service is available on bus #450 or #455 from Boston’s Haymarket Square. For train and bus information, contact the MBTA for more information at (800) 392-6100 or www.mbta.com. It takes approximately 30 minutes to travel between Salem and Boston by train, and one hour by bus.

Walking Directions from Salem Station:
From the top of the platform, follow Washington Street for about two blocks to the intersection with Essex Street.  Turn left down Essex Street, and walk approximately one half mile until you reach the Narbonne House (a National Park Service property), just past Orange Street.  Turn right down the wood-lined pathway next to the Narbonne House and follow until you reach Derby Street.  Turn left down Derby Street and walk two and half blocks to the House of the Seven Gables, which will be on your right.  

Ferry Service from Boston:
Ferry service from Boston is available with a fast, comfortable ride in only 45 minutes from Boston’s Central Wharf, home of the New England Aquarium. Scheduled service runs early in the morning and late into the evening.  Ferry service is typically available from late May until early November. Schedule, fares, and reservations are available at www.salemferry.com.  Ferry service is within a 5-minute walk from The House of the Seven Gables.
