Help us to celebrate Caroline Emmerton’s vision with the 2016 Annual Appeal
The story we tell is a moving one. The Gables’ founder, Caroline Emmerton, saved an architectural and literary treasure, created a museum, and used proceeds from ticket sales to fund programs that helped newly arrived immigrant neighbors settle into the community. This year, the 150th anniversary of her birth, we wish to honor this visionary social entrepreneur.
Miss Emmerton’s legacy carries on, thanks to your past support. The Secret Rooms Project, now underway, will help ensure the preservation of The House of the Seven Gables for generations to come. Educational programs draw a diverse and enthusiastic community to our Visitor Center, engage children in our schools, bolster area citizenship programs, and reach at-risk students and their families. Our annual exhibits link our historic past to our promising future.
Your support is critical. Just as Caroline Emmerton’s work inspires us, your generosity sustains us. Together we can move toward a future that’s promising and rewarding for all.
The Gables is a 501(c)(3) charity and your donation is fully deductable under the law. No goods or services were exchanged for this donation.
The storied past of The House of the Seven Gables has something more to reveal within the original four walls of this venerable 1668 mansion. Two second-floor chambers (rooms) were partitioned off decades ago and later used for utilitarian purposes. Recent careful removal of the partitions and 18th-century flooring have revealed a large chamber and adjacent living space with original 17th-century-wide pine floors, hand-forged nails and an exposed gunstock post.
We would like to restore these previously private and largely unknown spaces and open them to the public. These newly restored rooms will impart greater scope and meaning to the stories The House of the Seven Gables tells. Rarely does such a historic property yield such an exciting opportunity!
The House of the Seven Gables invites you to join a select group to help us launch a New Chapter in The Gables’ legacy. Two upstairs chambers, unknown by almost everyone until now, are going to be restored and opened to all. Some secrets are meant to share! Please help us make this happen!
