Navigating with Bowditch
Salem native, Nathaniel Bowditch, was America's first mathematical geographer
and was born near The House of the Seven Gables in 1773. His mastery of
math helped sailors navigate safely from port to port; his American Practical
Navigator is used aboard US Navy and Coast Guard ships to this day! In
the tradition of Bowditch, students work in teams and use math, observational
skills, and historical information to navigate their way through this
outdoor adventure.
